MASHED! HOMEBREWING TOURNAMENT

Description

This is not your usual homebrewing competition!…How will it work?

1. Open to a max of 32 entries in total.
2. There will be 2 rounds then quarter finals, the semi final and the final. At each round, your beer will be randomly selected to go head to head with another beer, more than likely of a different style.
3. Each 2 beers will be tasted by a team of beer lovers including experts from the industry and qualified tasters.
4. Each judge will score the beer either: winner (3 points), loser (0 points) or draw (1 point).
5. The beer with the highest score will go to the next round. If the scores are equal the beer with the most wins goes through.
6. The last beer standing will be crowned the MASHED! Homebrew Tournament winner.
7. Each beer will receive tasting notes from our experienced tasters for your personal reference.

What will you win? 

Apart from bragging rights, the overall winner will receive the unique MASHED! Homebrew Tournament trophy PLUS a £200 Dark Farm voucher which can be spent on (or put towards) any of the homebrewing equipment (including Brew Tanks), subscriptions or brew kits at darkfarm.co.uk

How to enter!

1. Pre register and pay your registration fee of £12.50 before January 10th 2024. Registration opens for MASHED! Magazine Subscribers & Dark Farm Hop Club Members on 1st October 2023. Opens to the general public on 1st November 2023. After registering we will email you at a slightly later date with your entry form and registration ID. 

 By entering you agree to the rules and method of judging stated below.

1. Send in your 6 pack of beer in 275-500ml bottles or cans by April 13th 2024. We’ll send you the address with your entry confirmation.
2. The competition will be held on April 27th 2024 in Aberystwyth, the winner will be announced the same day. Good luck!

THE RULES

The MASHED! Homebrewing Tournament is open to any amateur homebrewer (aged 18+).  

Registration opens for MASHED! Magazine Subscribers & Dark Farm Hop Club Members on 1st October 2023. Opens to the general public on 1st November 2023. Enter at www.darkfarm.co.uk/tournament

Entry fees need to be paid by January 10th 2024 – these are not refundable. 

The competition will have a maximum of 32 entries in total.

You can enter a maximum of ONE beer.  The judging panel’s decision is final!

The winner will receive a trophy PLUS a £200 Dark Farm voucher which can be spent on any of the homebrewing equipment (including Brew Tanks), subscriptions or brew kits at darkfarm.co.uk. Voucher is valid for 12 months from date of issue and can be spread over separate purchases or put towards higher value items. 

No cash alternative prize is offered.

Your beer must be made with all grain – no extract kits allowed. 

This is an amateur homebrewing tournament so all entries must be made on homebrewing equipment (not using commercial facilities or equipment). The ingredients need to be classed as non commercial too – so should be ones that are available to the general public.

All mailed entries must be received at the address below by April 13th 2024. Remember to allow for shipping time! 

The competition organisers are not responsible for postage costs, or for entries not received by this deadline, or for entries that arrived damaged. Entries can also be hand delivered in Aberystwyth (address provided on your entry form) by April 13th 2024. 

Each entry must consist of 6 x 275 – 500ml bottles or cans. Bottles can be capped, swing capped or corked. We will NOT be blind judging the entries so please ensure you label your bottles. Remember to include your entry form with your bottle entries!

You will be asked to note all ingredients, including any special ingredients on your entry form. This is important to help with the judging. 

If using any nut ingredients e.g. peanuts in your beer, please mark this on your label.

Note: your bottles will not be returned to you  

THE SCORING 

Please read this scoring section carefully.

This is not your usual homebrewing competition! Your beer won’t necessarily be judged against beers of the same style. If you would rather not compete in this exciting FA Cup style tournament, then perhaps a more traditional homebrewing competition would suit you better.
